Excessive sleepiness may indicate seven types of health problems

Some people may feel fatigued and sleep too much in the daytime. Excessive sleepiness may indicate that your body is having problems.

The followings are eight types of health problems that can lead to excessive sleepiness.

1. Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea can cause frequent drowsiness. People with sleep apnea feel tired, fatigued and drowsy in the daytime, and snore loudly and occur obstructive breathing when sleeping in the nighttime.

Stopped breathing can lead to hypoxia. Organs in the body cannot get a good rest, adversely affecting sleep quality.

2. Brain hemorrhages

Middle-aged males shall be cautious when unknown sleepiness frequently occurs because it can indicate that they are at risk of ischemic strokes.

There is a significant increase in the incidence of cerebrovascular disease in middle-aged people. The dysfunction of cerebral vessels can stop the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain, thus leading to severe drowsiness and fatigue.

Other symptoms like finger numbness, unexplained falls, and fluctuant mental states may become precursors of brain hemorrhages.

3. Weakness

Blood loss during periods will make women weak. Some women with asthenia will occur drowsiness, laziness, fatigue, dizziness, and palpitations.

4. Liver diseases

People with liver diseases tend to experience frequent sleepiness, accompanied by yellow skin, loss of appetite, and nausea.

5. Heart problems

Sleepiness is a common symptom of various heart diseases. Heart disease can cause poor blood circulation and the metabolic wastes accumulating in tissues can stimulate nerve endings to trigger fatigue and sleepiness.

6. Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disease without specific symptoms. It is estimated that diabetic patients are twice as likely to have daytime sleepiness. Frequent sleepiness during the day can be a sign of diabetes.

7. Anemia

Although anemia has been significantly reduced in people due to generally improved nutrition, some people who cannot take sufficient iron and certain amino acids can still have anemia because their diets lack iron and certain amino acids.

Fatigue and drowsiness are the most common symptoms of anemia, which are caused by anoxia in the muscle or nervous systems.

Particular attention shall be paid if your sleepiness lingers for weeks. Consult your doctors to find out what really causes frequent sleepiness.
